Dear Senior Parents,

You are cordially invited to attend The Capstone Fair on Thursday, June 6 in the Oxford High School gymnasium.  The fair is divided into two sessions.

Session 1: 12:00pm to 1:00pm will be students with last names beginning A-H

Session 2: 1:15pm to 2:15pm will be students with last names beginning I-Z

The Capstone Fair is set up in a science fair format where guests are free to move from table to table to observe presentations.  We kindly request that side conversations be kept to a minimum and in a quiet voice.  Teachers and staff will be scoring students against a rubric, and must be able to hear presentations clearly.

Sincerely,

The OHS Capstone Committee

Mr. Poffenberger, Mrs. McRae, Mrs. Poulin, Mrs. Collins

To the Parents/Guardians of the Oxford High School Class of 2019:
Oxford High School’s graduation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at 6 p.m., outside on
the Wolverine field (weather permitting). After checking the weather forecast Wednesday morning,
the Superintendent will determine whether the ceremony will need to be moved indoors to the
gymnasium. Families can check the district website after 10 a.m. on Wednesday for ceremony
location – www.oxfordpublicschools.org. In order to ensure that this special occasion runs as
smoothly as possible, I share the following:
Time and Place
Graduates are expected to be at OHS no later than 5 p.m. on June 12. The processional will begin
promptly at 6 p.m. Students will report to the cafeteria upon arrival.
If held outside, please note that field access will be limited to participants only. The school building
will not be accessible to the public. Port-a-Jons will be available for public use.
If the ceremony is held outside, no tickets are required, and seating is first-come, first-serve.
Rockwell Studios has been contracted to take graduation photos. An email has been sent home
informing you how to purchase pictures if interested.
Indoors if Inclement Weather
If held inside, seating in the gymnasium is limited; therefore, four tickets per family will be issued after
rehearsal on June 11. There will be overflow seating for non-ticket holders in the auditorium which is
climate controlled and where the ceremony will be simulcast. Guests will have access to these two
settings at 5 p.m.
Note – due to fire code regulations, balloons are not permitted inside the building.
Parking
We expect to have enough parking to accommodate everyone in attendance. We would be grateful,
however, if you would consider carpooling as parking will be at a premium that night. Local and State
Police, along with some district personnel, will assist with parking. Be sure to allow enough time to
park and walk to the field as traffic will be stopped when it is time for the graduates to proceed
to the field.
Student Rehearsal Times
We have scheduled two mandatory rehearsals for all graduates – June 10 and 11.
Monday, June 10 – Senior lunch catered by Senor Pancho’s at 11:30 a.m. followed by
rehearsal at 12:30 p.m.
Tuesday, June 11 – Graduates should arrive at 9 a.m. for breakfast sponsored by the Booster
Club. Seniors will receive their caps and gowns and tickets at this time. Immediately following,
students will board buses to visit Great Oak, Oxford Center, and Quaker Farms schools for a
graduation walk through the halls at each school. Upon return to OHS, there will be another rehearsal
followed by a cupcake truck.
There is no charge to students for any of these activities.
In addition, the OHS Booster Club is sponsoring a Senior Lock-in on June 11 from 9:30 p.m. to
5:30 a.m. on June 12. There are a number of activities scheduled throughout the evening, including
paint ball, caricatures, a talent show, and much more. The cost for attendance is just $5, and
students will be able to sign up during school. Visit the Booster Club website: ohsboosterclub.com
for more information on senior events.
If necessary, an additional graduation rehearsal will be scheduled. We ask for you and your
child’s assistance and cooperation with this very special graduation. Failure to attend these
rehearsals may result in the loss of the privilege of participating in the graduation ceremony.
Dress Code
Caps, gowns, and tassels will be distributed to students on June 11.
The following dress code must be adhered to if your child participates in graduation:
Male students Slacks, button-down shirt, and dress shoes
Female students Light colored clothing; dress, slacks/skirt & blouse, and
dress shoes or footwear with a back. For safety reasons, flat shoes are
recommended for an outdoor ceremony.
Please do not bring a handbag.
No beach sandals or flip-flops are permitted.
All students are required to wear the school-issued cap and gown. Future communication from
administration regarding decoration of caps will be forthcoming. We ask that parents please refrain
from flowers or corsages until after the ceremony.
Graduation is a formal, dignified ceremony that should be considered as such by all.
Inappropriate or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Your sons and daughters have always been
true ladies and gentlemen in social settings. We know they will make us and all of Oxford proud on
this extremely special occasion.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Potter

The next planning meeting for the Senior Lock In is Wednesday, June 6th at 6:30 in the cafeteria. I am also posting a link for a “my signup” page. If you would like to help out that evening you can sign up for a time slot here. We are also looking for prize basket donations and food donations. If you would like to help with that you can sign up here as well. Thank you and we are looking forward to making this a fun event for our Seniors.
