Oxford Loses to Ansonia

The Oxford Football team took one on the chin last night when they visited the #5 team in the state, Ansonia.  The Chargers used their experience, speed, and physical play to score 3 TD’s in the first quarter and take a commanding lead of 20 – 0.

In the 2nd Quarter, things did not get much better as Ansonia found the end zone 3 more times for a 43-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the young Wolverines fought hard and held the Chargers out of the end zone, but were unable to score, resulting in a 43-0 loss.

The Wolverines will look to get back on the winning track on Friday against the Crosby Bulldogs at home at 6pm, in front of their home crowd and OZONE faithful.

Nutmeg Book Club – September

Article written by: Morgan Hines:

On September 7, the Nutmeg Book Club held their first meeting of the new school year. Nutmeg Book Club, is a book club that meets monthly, on Thursdays,  at Oxford High School’s Library Media Center. But the special thing about it is that it’s connected to other schools in the state. The book club is actually apart of a program created by the people behind the Nutmeg Book Award. Which is an award that is given to books from different categories every year, and members of this book club can actually help chose the winner of the book in the High School Category.

Now you might be wondering how this is possible. Well, high schools from around the state are given a list of nominations for the Nutmeg award, that is made by a committee of students and adults. Throughout the year members read the books while holding monthly meetings to have discussions about the books that they have read, and at the end of the year, each school votes for one book each to be the winner of the award. Last year’s winner, was I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson.

This year, we have a total of 10 nominees, and the OHS Nutmeg Book Club is calling for your help to choose which book will be this year’s Nutmeg Award winner! Meetings are once a month, and each month we as a group will complete one book and then discuss it the following meeting.

This month’s book is called More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera. This book is about a boy named Aaron who wants to change his life, by going through with a procedure by an institute called Leteo, that specializes in erasing memories. Come and join us as we go through an epic adventure of reading and discussion! Please join us, it’s never too late join and be apart of this amazing experience.
